These are some of the most popular hikes all within easy driving distance to the cabin. All hikes listed are those I have taken my own family to throughout the years. For longer hikes check out the Buffalo River Trail system, accessible in Ponca or Boxley.
11 miles from cabin to one of the most popular hikes in the Upper Buffalo Wilderness Area. This is a moderately difficult 2.9 mile out and back with exposure. When the leaves start to change color it attracts hundreds of visitors each weekend. If the parking lot is full please do not block the road or park on private property, or your vehicle could be ticketed.

Hawk's Bill Crag/Whitaker Point
County Road 40611 miles from cabin to one of the most popular hikes in the Upper Buffalo Wilderness Area. This is a moderately difficult 2.9 mile out and back with exposure. Sweden Creek Falls

40 miles of backcountry riding! This trail system is located within the Upper Buffalo Wilderness.

6 miles from cabin, this is the only access point to the trails off the hwy. It is an easy drop in to the rest of the trails.

Buffalo River Access Points
Ponca to Kyles is one of the most paddled sections of the Upper Buffalo River. The Ponca access is the highest point on the river Outfitters rent boats for recreational boaters. Serious adventurers with plenty of white water experience and gear, use the Boxley Bridge access or Hailstone. This upper section of the river is heavily rain reliant and conditions can change rapidly. There is no cell coverage at all on any of the Upper Buffalo and rescue efforts in this geographically isolated back country region can take many hours. I have been on the river from Boxley to the White River feel free to ask questions if needed to plan your river trip.

15 miles from cabin, very close to the church, the Boxley Bridge is the access point for Boxley. No outfitters will be able to rent you a boat, but they will set you up with a shuttle if you have your own boat.

This is great food in a casual atmosphere. It’s close to the entrance to Steel Creek on the Buffalo River. If you are coming back from Kyles and a day adventures sit on the patio or grab something easy like a cheeseburger to go.

The speed limits is 15 mph on county roads.
Bring a 4wd and sight see along the way. You won’t have good cell service so don’t rely on it for directions. Use a topo map of area or take screen shots of routes and track your mileage along the way to be sure you know where you are along the route.
