Food Scene

Lafayette has so many restaurants and not just Cajun. There are some that have been around for generations, and for good reason. And others that are new. I'll help you eat like a local. Please pass up the chain restaurants and support our Mom & Pop places. Often times the hole in the wall places are better than the fancy ones!
This is my family's favorite Brunch spot. They often have live music. The service is great and so are the cocktails. Our favorite dish is the alligator appetizer. Give it a try!

This is a locally-owned Italian restaurant that is cozy, has outdoor seating and excellent dishes. I highly suggest their Rosemary butter with the bread, the Eggplant (or chicken) Parmesean and the Tiramisu dessert.

This is a Mom and Pop grocery store that offers many ready-to-eat meals, fresh sushi rolls, a small deli with premium cheese and meats, as well as a large selection of wines and whiskey and everything in between. They also deliver!

Lola's is a neighborhood favorite open only for lunch. It is very simple with good food. Nothing fancy about it. They have a really good chicken salad croissant. You order at the counter and they call you when your food is ready. There is always a ton of medical professionals that walk there from the nearby doctors offices and hospital.

I highly suggest the shrimp po boy. The half order is enough for one person. Their French fries are good and come in a huge portion (enough for 3-4 people to share). Get a glass coke or root beer and a bag of Zapp's potatoe chips. Try sitting on the outdoor patio and people watch (especially around lunchtime in Spring and Fall semesters). It is difficult to find parking so it's best to walk here (Uber or Lyft).

This casual pizza place has been around since the 1970s. I am 37 years old but fondly remember dining there, adding a quarter to their TVs on the booth (tables) and watching black and white TV for about 10 minutes. My husband worked there as a bus boy & bartender while in college. They have a huge menu, specialty pizza, awesome appetizers, and, surprisingly, my #3 favorite frozen margarita in Lafayette! Ask me and I'll tell you my top 2.

This is a local favorite and a place to be seen. They have a good half and half margarita. My favorites are the Ziggy Wings (off the menu), the Fried Rabbit with Queso- just try it! And my 2nd favorite margarita in Lafayette- the Ronnie Special (off the menu). The cocktail is over $20 but is really smooth. My husband and many friends like the Don Briggs entrée, that's off the menu, too. They do not accept reservations. Be prepared to (tyically) spend an hour wait on weekend nights.

Entertainment & Leisure

This is a fantastic spa. The owner has maintained a great reputation and has many faithful clients. It is a great place to wind down, unplug and take a break. The services are great and is close by, in the Oil Center.

We call it UL. Home of the Ragin' Cajuns. There is the only campus swamp in the U.S. The campus features hundred year old Oak Trees. There are many grassy areas to enjoy. It is the second largest university in Louisiana. Fans can be heard cheering Geaux Cajuns® (and yes, it is a federally registered trademark). You can hear the marching band practicing during the Fall semester, which is really neat.

Neighborhoods

This is the cultural hub of Lafayette. Here you'll find locally owned salons, boutiques, coffee shops, restaurants, bars, gift shops and other treasures. It is a nice, walkable area that is also bike-friendly. Uber and Lyft often stay in this area since it is moe congested than other areas. Great place to walk around, people watch and sightsee. Like many cities, sometimes it can be dangerous at night so I would not suggest going after 9pm. If you do, be aware of your surroundings. Stay safe and be kind. Lafayette is a very friendly city.
