Neighborhoods

Northern Liberties aka NoLibs easily stands as one of Philly’s best neighborhoods for dining and drink. Its walkable layout, top-notch bars and authentic international eateries offer no shortage of options. The area also boasts some of the city’s most popular bruncheries. Craft-beer lovers continue to enjoy NoLibs’ bar scene, and now cocktail connoisseurs can join in the revelry with top-shelf offerings popping up around town. NoLibs has always been home to a fantastic retail lineup, a personality that’s persisted throughout its evolution from up-and-comer to Philly frontrunner. The neighborhood’s artistic daredevilry, meanwhile, has been bolstered by exciting real estate opportunities for gallery owners. The apartment that you are renting is located in Northern Liberties, just steps from trendy restaurants (Añejo, Figo, Standard Tap, Yards Brewery, Set NoLibs, Bagels & Co. ), shops, and nightlife on 2nd Street of Northern Liberties, and walking distance to Heirloom (Food Market), ACME, and the Piazza. Downtown and South Philly are just a quick 5-minute drive away!

City/town information

The country’s first World Heritage City, Philadelphia is also the birthplace of the United States, where our Founding Fathers met, discussed, debated and formed a new country. Lucky for 21st-century visitors, so much of Philadelphia’s history has been preserved. That includes, of course, two of the city’s most important attractions: Independence Hall (one of the only World Heritage sites in the country and where the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution were drafted and signed) and the Liberty Bell (a symbol of abolitionist movement). It also includes the historic houses, government buildings, museums, churches and cemeteries that make up Independence National Historical Park, the “most historic square mile in America” run by the National Parks Service that sees millions of visitors every year. Elsewhere, visitors soak up the region’s history in the quaint, explorable alleyways of Old City and Society Hill, at the city’s excellent history museums (Museum of the American Revolution, Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History, the African American Museum) and throughout the Greater Philadelphia region at sites made famous by the American Revolution (Valley Forge National Historical Park). Philadelphia’s walkable downtown (which Philadelphians call Center City) makes the area an exciting place for a night out. Start an evening with drinks at one of the city’s many rooftop bars, outdoor beer gardens or cocktail destinations, and then move on to dinner at any number of destination-worthy restaurants all over the city — including several lauded as among the best in the nation. Prefer a beloved dive bar or a spot for great casual eats? There are tons of those as well. And whether fancy or dressed-down, live music and dancing at venues both in and out of doors keep the party going late into the night — or at least until it’s time for an end-of-the-night cheesesteak… While Rittenhouse Square and other high-end areas are perennial destinations for the latest looks, pocket neighborhoods like Midtown Village, Fishtown and Old City each offer their own unique allure. From malls like The Shops at Liberty Place and King of Prussia to department stores like Macy’s and Boyds to small boutiques like Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction and Verde, shoppers have no shortage of appealing options. Plus, since clothing and shoe sales are tax-free, there’s no better place to stock up on style than in Philadelphia. Philadelphia has a particular penchant for the performing and visual arts. Renowned for its live music scene, Philadelphia’s vibrant rock, rap, jazz and pop venues located in neighborhoods all across the city showcase the world’s most buzzed-about musicians. That’s not to mention the city’s renowned classical groups, which includes The Philadelphia Orchestra, one of the world’s greatest classical music organizations and one of the most prolific recording acts in history. The Avenue of the Arts, also known as Broad Street, features many of the city’s premier theater and dance venues, while small, intimate spaces devoted to experimental ventures specialize in everything from avant-garde to musicals, recent hit plays to original scripts, and classics to children’s theater. With dozens of professional dance companies and a number of excellent venues, Philadelphia boasts an internationally renowned modern dance company, a fabulous ballet troupe and African, hip-hop, tap, salsa, Flamenco and postmodern ensembles. Since the city’s founding, Philadelphia has enjoyed and promoted its incredible parks and outdoor spaces. William Penn was so inspired by the eastern hardwood forest that greeted him in the New World that he named his colony Penn’s Woods, or Pennsylvania. Another Penn gem, Philadelphia’s five main squares date back to the original city — all part of the founder’s plan for a “greene countrie town.” Today, the Philadelphia region is blooming with lively urban parks, re-imagined recreational landscapes, spirited pop-up gardens and scenic running and biking trails. From the massive trail systems of Fairmount Park and Wissahickon Valley Park to the delightful riverside enclaves of the seasonal Spruce Street Harbor Park and Race Street Pier to regional attractions like Longwood Gardens and Valley Forge National Historical Park, residents and visitors enjoy relaxing, exercising and playing in these public spaces that honor Penn’s vision. Lastly, Philadelphia is one of just a few cities with a professional franchise in five major league sports. Most of Philadelphia’s pro teams play a few miles south of Center City, either at the Wells Fargo Center (76ers basketball and Flyers ice hockey), Lincoln Financial Field (Eagles football) or Citizens Bank Park (Phillies baseball). The Philadelphia Union soccer team plays at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania, just outside of Philadelphia. The city also hosts top-tier regattas (the Dad Vail Regatta and the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta), the world’s oldest relay meet (the Penn Relays), numerous marathons and running events (the Philadelphia Marathon, the Broad Street Run) and much more.
