Lovely beer garden draped in flowers and fairy lights for when it's sunny, and cosy interior with log fire when it's cold. This is one of our personal go-to spots in town.

Zada and The Mad Turk are two local Turkish restaurants which serve equally amazing food to be honest. Zada doesn't have a covered outdoor area like the Mad Turk but does have a jazzy interior and the staff are just wonderful.

Best for al fresco dining when it's warm and sunny. Authentic Italian pizza, very reasonably-priced. Feels like a bit of the med in Stamford. Very popular in summer so you might have to queue a little while. Reservations are for inside the restaurant only.

Orbis can be pricey but is undoubtedly the most popular restaurant in town with its tapas-style world cuisine. Everything tastes exquisite. You will likely need to reserve in advance on weekends and they are closed Sundays and Mondays.

The George is an icon of Stamford. If you like historic buildings, pop in, if only for drinks. Personally, I find it a little too ostentatious and it’s understandably very expensive. That said, if you order hot drinks you can have free refills of any other hot drink… I’ve copied history blurb below: “The George Hotel is a hotel and former coaching inn on the route of the Great North Road (the original A1). It is possible that there was a hostelry on the site in 947 but the exact date of the current building is not known. A hospital of the Knights of St John of Jerusalem was on the site and was partly destroyed during the Wars of the Roses. The hospital was associated with Peterborough Abbey. The main block of the hotel was rebuilt, by William Cecil, 1st Baron Burghley in 1597, but may have incorporated fragments of the earlier building. In 1645 Charles I stayed at the George and other notables and sportsmen. A pit was built for cockfighting. During the 18th century it became a busy coaching inn. Daniel Defoe, in ‘A tour thro' the whole island of Great Britain’ (1724), wrote; "From hence we came to St. Martins, and stopp'd at the George, out of Curiosity, because it is reckoned one of the greatest Inns in England, and thence proceeded to Stamford." Among the customers was Daniel Lambert, one of the heaviest people in history at the time, who died in Stamford and is buried at St Martin's Church.” For more history and info see The George Hotel website.

This is our second favourite restaurant after Orbis. (The smoked lamb starter is to this day the most delicious food I’ve ever tasted.) Prices are on the steep side. Not overly busy so should be okay if you haven’t booked in advance.
