So real, although made of stone! One of the most beautiful works of art formed by nature can be found along the way to Vršič. The stone face of Heathen Maiden in the northern face of Prisank can be best seen from the viewpoint at ‘Poštarski dom’ mountain cabin at Vršič, but it is also visible from the Erjavec mountain cabin. According to the legend, the mythical creature, Heathen Maiden, prophesied to the son of a hunter that he will shoot the Goldhorn. Other heathen women got upset because of this inadmissible prophecy and turned the prophetess into a rock...

Artwork in memory of and as a reminder The wooden chapel, dedicated to St. Vladimir, was built in 1917 by Russian prisoners of war in memory of the deceased during the construction of the Vršič Pass road. The construction of the chapel is wooden. Originally it was covered with bark, later with small boards. The humble interior shows an interesting altar with iconostasis, forged chandeliers and candlesticks. In the vicinity of the Russian Chapel, you can visit the graves and a stone tomb dating back to 1936–37.

Everyone understands the Alpine greeting! Peč/Tromeja/Monte Forno/Dreiländereck/Ofen is a 1,508m high peak, located at the triple border between Slovenia, Italy and Austria. The top offers a spectacular view of the Julian Alps, the Gailtal Alps, the Gurktal Alps, the High and Low Tauern and the western part of the Karavanke mountains. You will notice that the memorials at the top are written in all three languages. Every year, a social event brings together representatives of all three nations.

If you are a lover of Late Gothic art, you should definitely see the Church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary in Kranjska Gora. Originally it was named the Church of Our Lady of the White Gravel, but only a brick belfry in the Romanesque style was preserved. In 1510, today’s church was designed by master Jernej Firtaler from Villach. The Corinthian influence is particularly visible in the nave arch, which is decorated with intertwined ribs and is the most interesting arch of this type not only in the Upper Sava Valley, but also in Slovenia.

Two fantastic waterfalls! Under the Špik Mountain you will find two waterfalls – pearls of the Slovenian Alpine world. Especially spectacular is the Upper Martuljek waterfall, which descends in three stages over the vertical wall of 110m. The path to it is relatively easy, however the trail to the vicinity of the waterfall is only suitable for well-equipped mountaineers. Then, the stream continues through the Jasenje mountain and as the Lower Martuljek Waterfall runs over the 50-metre-high wall in a 400-metre-long and narrow Martuljek Gorge formed in limestone. We recommend visiting both waterfalls during late spring, when the waterfalls have the most water due to the melting snow. A wonderf

There is nothing more beautiful in Europe than this,” wrote Sir Humphry Davy about the beauties of the Sava Valley with its waterfalls and lakes. The Zelenci Lake can be discovered immediately after the village of Podkoren on the southern side of the main road. This natural reserve is home to various interesting flora, among it carnivorous sundew, and among animals, amphibians and nesting birds are represented in large numbers. Following a wooden footbridge, you can walk to the lake and around the swamps without harming nature. An unforgettable green experience.

Before the first road bends to Vršič, stop for a short break at the Jasna Lake. It consists of two interconnected artificial lakes at the confluence of the Velika Pišnica and Mala Pišnica streams. The area around the lake offers nice trails, but you can also enjoy fishing since it is a well-known fishing district. Of course, fly fishing is the only type allowed. At the end, take a group photo beside the proud bronze Ibex.

The highest twin in Slovenia! Peričnik Waterfall with its 52m one of the highest among Slovenian waterfalls. There is a marked trail leading to it from Mojstrana. It is best to visit it on foot or by bike. From the Peričnik mountain cabin from the board with all information about the waterfall you can reach the highest, lower waterfall in ten minutes. If you want to get to the other side behind or under the waterfall, be very careful since the path is wet and slippery. You can also ascend to another, upper waterfall, but its height is only 16 meters

The Triglav National Park (TNP) is the only Slovenian national park. The park was named after Triglav, the highest mountain in the heart of the park, which is also the highest summit in Slovenia (2864 m). The Triglav National Park extends along the Italian border and close to the Austrian border in the north-west of Slovenia, that is, in the south-eastern section of the Alps. Its territory is nearly identical with that occupied by the Eastern Julian Alps. The park covers 880 square kilometres, or 3% of the territory of Slovenia.

Vrata is our most famous and also the most popular alpine valley. Here begins the walking route to the mountain Triglav... At the upper end it "crashes" into the wide Triglav north wall, and a few-minute walk from the parking lot will be rewarded with a splendid view of the wall. You will feel its power even if you don't have the intention to hike further towards Triglav, and have a look at the magnificent symbol of Slovenia from up close without special effort.
