One guide book considered this harbour to be maybe the world's most beautiful natural harbour; I've never seen anything to rival it in all my travels; 5kms to explore, by foot or boat; outstanding!!!

The two hour, one way, walk along the Mahinepua peninsula is lovely, through regenerating manuka scrubland, with beaches & coves left & right. Described as the Best Scenic Track in Northland by NZ Frenzy author Scott Cook.

Actually one of the greatest short walks one can do in NZ! Allow 3 hours one-way; through real native forest, two streams to be forded, along rocky volcanic cliff faces, to the stunning West Arm of the Whangaroa Harbour. Allow yourselves (upon pre-arrangement) to be collected by water taxi for the return to your car, so giving you a look at this pristine, Jurassic-like harbour!
