Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park is the largest state park in Florida and is home to a variety of plant and animal species that can be found nowhere else in the continental United States. The emphasis at Fakahatchee is on the preservation of its natural character. In keeping with this goal, facilities and activities are limited, but allow the visitor a wilderness to enjoy and explore. The park can be divided into four main use areas. These are the Big Cypress Bend Boardwalk, the East River, the Jones Grade lakes, and Janes Memorial Scenic Drive. The Big Cypress Bend Boardwalk is about 2,500 feet long and winds through a beautiful, pristine section of the Fakahatchee Strand swamp a

Hiking...

This is a wonderful hike on a Boardwalk Trail and just about 5-10 miles East of The Port... The Big Cypress Bend Boardwalk at Fakahatchee Preserve State Park offers a peek into one tiny corner of the Fakahatchee Strand, but it’s significant in two ways – it’s the most accessible and therefore most highly visited corner of the preserve, and it’s a notable natural landmark, a stand of virgin cypress in an otherwise cut-over strand... Tunnel into the heart of the swamp known as Florida’s own Amazon on this brief but beautiful boardwalk trail to experience the hundreds of shades of green and the majestic ancient cypresses that tower above... Bring binoculars, water, a camera, and a watchful eye for there is much to see for the observant Hiker...
