Bar. Restaurant. 21+ - This recently opened from the kitchen of Ma Ono (another Hawaiian fave in West Seattle). Their Chinese-inspired menu is off the charts, and they have cocktails on tap!! The decor rocks, and is worth a visit even if not hungry.

Delicious and nicely decorated Hawaiian-inspired sushi bar. We love sitting at the bar and interacting with the chefs, but there are also ample tables for dining. No outdoor patio, unfortunately, but it sits right in the heart of Columbia City for shopping and dining. Going to a show at the Columbia City Theater? Dine here first! Closes sort of early, so not great for late night dining. We eat here usually once a week - and they are open on Mondays! Which is rare in Seattle.

BOMB brunches. Usually there is a line, but the food is soooo worth it. They are known for their fried chicken, ramen and whiskey. But I love the kalua pork tostada at brunch. That, and bottomless mimosas. :)

Looking for a true divey, Seattle experience? Loretta's has [seriously] the BEST burger in town. Google it - it has been written up plenty. This tiny dive bar in the seedy section of South Seattle is a fabulous way to spend a rainy day drinking whiskey and eating good food. Make a day of it after visiting the Boeing Museum of Flight, which is just across the bridge.

Air Stream Cake Shop. Need I say more? Charlie is the owner/baker for this amazing tiny bakery that serves WEDDING CAKES BY THE SLICE! Every weekend at the Georgetown Trailer Park Mall. Check her out on Instagram @deepseasugar, and make the impossible decision of which cake to eat. Then take that cake next door to Star Brass Works and sit outside, while drinking a cocktail and mowing on her grub. Not diet friendly, but REALLY good for the soul.

One of our favorite food spots in Seattle, Westward sits directly on the beach of Northlake, across from downtown. During better weather, it's fun to sit outside in their deep adirondack chairs, sip cocktails, and watch the sun set over downtown Seattle. When it gets a bit chilly, they have a large fire pit that brings friends and strangers together. NW cuisine, seafood heavy. Awesome cocktails, and great wine list.

BUTTERFLY HOUSE. I'm not kidding. Especially on a cold or rainy day, this dome filled with flying butterflies will lift your spirits. It's about 88º in there, and wonderfully humid. You'll feel like you're on a tropical vacation, right in the heart of Seattle. It's not super cheap, but so worth it for a mental and physical pick-me-up. Filed with tropical plants, it's a short walk through, and butterflies will land on you! Plus, you'll learn some things about butterflies in doing so. HEAVEN.
