Tavistock offers a wealth of things to do for those who like active holidays from breathtaking walks across Dartmoor, wild swimming in the Tavy, cycling along Drakes Trail or visit the Tamar Activity Centre
This walk can be done in either direction but if you take the path adjacent to the Tennis Courts and head up the hill you do the worst of it first. At the very end of the path at the top of the hill you come to a road, do a dog leg left and then join the footpath right and follow it round to the right. This is part of the South West Coastal Path that takes you along Lord Revelstoke's Drive that he had built so that he could take guests on a drive along the coast stopping for tea at Warren Cottage (now a holiday let). A stunning walk, you can choose to go down to the beach at various points including cellars beach. Eventually through some pretty woods you come back to Noss.

If the tide is in you have the fun of catching the tractor to take you to the island, if the tide is out you have a fabulous beach on which to play. The Burgh Island Hotel was my surprise introduction to the South Hams and the Pilchard Inn does good beer

If you love discovering what the sea has left in pools this is as good a place as any to find it. A beautiful walk to get there but check on the ferry times.

This was always the beach we went to as children, wild, less touristy than many Cornish Beaches but with all the amenities you would want. Great for swimming and rock pooling and plenty of sand for those all important dams and castles!
