Food Scene

Archie's are a boutique hair dresser / coffee shop, named after the owner's rescue pug. Why Archie's? Not only can you can grab a delicious coffee and a sharp haircut (NB: without the gendered price tag), but the staff are amazingly talented and very friendly. Good vibes all round. And hey, you might even get to pat a dog so what's not to like? TIP: they also do a delicious cheese toastie sandwich complete with baby pickles.

ATTENTION STEAK (and hot chip) EATERS: Tuesday nights is $15 steak and BOTTOMLESS fries at the Saracens. This is a good deal even if you don't eat meat. We (Carrie) would happily eat fifteen dollars worth of fries. Regardless, the steak is quality. Tuesday night in our house = steak night date night. Team steak night with laundry night and you've got a winning combo (the laundromat is directly across the road). TIP: If you select washing machine # 3 and sit in a certain booth in the pub you can enjoy a delicious meal while keeping an eye on your laundry and see when it's finished!

Delicious, Chinese food everywhere! See Thanh Thanh for pho, Dumpling King for cheap dumplings, T-Chow or Ding Hao for yum cha, or Cafe Kowloon is a bit of an institution in Adelaide (but be prepared to wait in line). China Town is a always good pick for a late night meal if you're out and about looking for some dinner!

South Australian owned, independent grocer. There are a couple around, but we like this one because it has it's own butcher on site. It's also conveniently located next to the bottle shop. Open 7am til 9pm every day.

Drinks & Nightlife

Visit the Kings Head Pub for everything South Australian! Proudly South Aussie, all food and drink are locally sourced. Order from the bar, or head to the next room where you will find a cellar filled with local wines and beers. Here, you'll find a much broader range of regional delights than in your standard bottle shop. If you don't have time to make it to the wine regions, then the Kings Head is the next best thing. Select a bottle of wine to drink on site or take away. TIP: they regularly feature local craft beers and ciders on tap. If you find a brew that you are particularly fond of, the staff will do a special sealed takeaway tinnie for you. Heaps good!

This is one of the best kept secrets of Adelaide. The Himeji Gardens is a little Japanese garden in the heart of Adelaide. There is also a sister garden in Himeji, Japan. Tranquil, tidy and delightful. Worth spending a quiet moment in the zen garden. One of our favourite spots (free entry).
