Market Harborough is 6 miles from Wilbarston, and is a charming, pretty, well maintained place. It has a good selection of independent shops, and a fair number of large chains. At its heart are the Parish Church, St. Dionysius, The Old Grammar School and the Town Square. As I understand it the Harborough Heritage Trail has been revamped, and the still really quite good local paper did a piece on it. I think they are wrong on Question 6 , though, because the old Edinburgh House was demolished and Golden Wonder have never been in the building that now stands in the site.

Rutland recently regained it status as a county, Well, fairly recently in the big scheme of things. Rutland Water has existed since 1976 and the largest reservoir in England, but by capacity it is exceeded by Kielder Water. (thanks, Wikipedia). The lake offers a lot of attractions and this Discover Rutland page sets out a lot of them including sailing, cycling, walking , birdwatching, fly-fishing and a mini-beasts zoo. There is an aqua park (only open in the summer) with the UK’s largest inflatable slide

The flight of locks at Foxton are renowned throughout the narrow boat community. The Canal and River Trust says of them “There are flights of locks all over our network – but not like Foxton. It’s home to two amazing feats of engineering in the heart of Leicestershire, on the Grand Union Canal. As well as the longest and steepest staircase locks in the UK, the site is home to the remains of the inclined plane, a magnificent, if slightly weird, piece of Victorian engineering.” Not only do you have the Grade II listed locks to look at, refreshment is available at the base of the locks provided by a canal-side shop and two pubs; Bridge 61 and Foxton Locks Inn. Virtual Reality And the slightly weird piece of Victorian engineering, a sort of chair lift for barges, has been recreated in Virtual Reality by means of a smartphone app, which enables you to see the boats being chairlifted. That must be properly weird. You can find further references to the locks at Go Leicestershire and at the Foxton Lock Keepers own site
