Largo is the main square of Sofia - an architectural ensemble of three buildings in the style of socialist realism, built in the 1950s as the new representative center of the capital. Today it is one of the most famous architectural examples of the era in Southeastern Europe and one of the symbols of Sofia. The ensemble includes the former Party House now used by the National Assembly, and two symmetrical buildings that today house the Central Department Store, the Council of Ministers, the Presidency and the Balkan Hotel.

The Bulgarian president’s office isn't open to the public, but the changing of the guard ceremony (on the hour) is a spectacle not to be missed; for the full ceremony, replete with music, weapons and all manner of pomp, be there on the first Wednesday of the month at noon.
