The National Design and Crafts Gallery is located in one of the most beautiful enclosed spaces in Ireland. House within the original stables for the Kilkenny Castle this gallery is in a crescent shaped building. The large windows would have allowed for carriages to be stored. Currently on display in a fabulous contemporary Metal exhibition with would from European and Japanese makers. Well worth a visit. Stroll from here into the Butler gardens at the back of the Castle Yard. Or pop to JMK Goldsmiths or Ray Power pottery for a spot of shopping

Excellent exhibitions of Irish and international design and crafts run all the time in the National Craft Gallery in Castle Yard across the road from Kilkenny Castle. Each year these include the show of works produced by the graduating class from the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland's Ceramics Skills and Design Course, typically sometime during July-August. The works on display are often on sale.
