Gibside is a National Trust Site, great day out. Look out for their farmers market on some Saturday's and also they convert into a family pub on a Friday and Saturday in the summer, serving great local beers and sometimes they have live music, buskers etc. They also have a pizza place on site too. Great place to explore.

For those interested in history, Georgian landscapes and royal connections. The old hall is a ruin but the chapel remains in tact and is a stunning and rare example of its type. The grounds are mainly woodland and include a riverside walk where otters kingfisher and dipper are often seen. Row deer can be spotted in the woods and over head red kite and common buzzard are regularly seen. The skyline walk takes you from Snipes Dene up onto the estate farm then back down into Westwood. They have two cafes one near the chapel and another in the centre of the estate in the converted stable block. There is a book shop, toilets, history room and nature room at the stables.
