You haven't seen Munich really without going to a beer garden. This is where we locals meet friends and socialize with strangers, it's the essence of the Munich lifestyle of "live and let live". Chinaturm is the most famous and most beautifully located beer garden here, right in the middle of English Garden, a huge and awesome park where we all hang out in summer. Not to be missed! And make sure to explore English Garden more and especially watch the famous river surfers at the south tip. Don't try yourself, it's really tricky! As with every beer garden, you can buy local food there or bring your own. The Hofbräu beer they sell there is not that great though but the location makes more than up for that (and non-Bavarians might not taste a big difference anyway). If you're a real beer expert Augustinerkeller would be the place to go instead.
