This is a getaway for the day if you have access to a car. It’s gorgeous sightseeing. You can combine this with Cartago Centro to see the National Cathedral and they have the best veggies 🥦 and fruits 🍉 in the Central Valley.

Ujarrás is a town and historic site in Costa Rica, located in the district of Cachí, canton of Paraíso, province of Cartago, an hour and a half from our location. The ruins of its colonial church are located 1 kilometer from the northwest shore of Lake Cachí. This ancient construction of 'calicanto' (lime and stone masonry) is all that remains of the first calicanto church built in Costa Rica during the 17th century, approximately between 1686 and 1693. It is of great interest for tourism. Since its origins, this temple has been an important center of pilgrimages. Hours: Monday to Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with limited capacity

A monument of national importance, the ruins of the town of Ujarras are a valuable (and extremely rare) example of Costa Rica’s colonial times. The ruins of Costa Rica’s oldest church are found here, built in 1693. Another important fact is that the church housed the statue of the saint patron of the colonial times, which allegedly protected the colony from the attacks of the pirate Morgan in the 17th century. You can even picnic in the small but charming gardens that surround the church
