Enjoy a quiet walk amidst this small 6-hectare nature reserve, home to rare and endangered fynbos vegetation. Cape Town stands out for its rich diversity of indigenous flora and fauna. This compact yet vital reserve, spanning six hectares, is a unique confluence of two critically endangered ecosystems - the Swartland shale renosterveld and the Cape Flats sand fynbos. The reserve is a treasure trove of biological diversity, with approximately 241 plant species, including three that are endemic to Cape Town and six that are under the threat of extinction. A host of fauna, including various birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians, have made this location their habitat. Visitors can witness the vibrant presence of the Cape sugarbird, lesser double-collared sunbird, and Cape spurfowl, among others. The elusive small grey mongoose, the angulate tortoise, and the endemic, vulnerable Cape rain frog, whose calls can be heard during rainfall, also reside here. Open to the public, the reserve features a variety of amenities and activities. Accessible walking trails and wheelchair-friendly paths wind their way through the landscape, and picnic spots can be found near the main entrance and in the reserve's southern section.
