The exhibition is organized in three exhibition rooms and two foyers. The exhibition in the first room covers the period from the 4th millenium BC to 1393, the end of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom. Different objects, tools as well as many photos and graphic diagrams give an idea of the development of medicine as a practice in this perod. The second exhibition room presents the development of medicine from 1393 to the Bulgarian National Revival.

Музеят по история на медицината е открит през 1985 година и е единствен на Балканския полуостров. Експозицията се намира в сградата на първата благотворителна болница в страната. В нея може да се видят над 4500 стари медицински книги, една от най-разнообразните в страната палеоантропологични колекции, тракийски медицински инструменти и такива от гръцката колонизация, римската империя и началото на българската държава.
