A beautiful town that has inherited from generation to generation the art of rugs and textiles made with loom, wool rugs, and cotton textiles in general, with dyes and natural elements. You can enter many houses where the whole family is dedicated to the trade, but above all we recommend arriving at the center of town, next to the church, where the cultural center is located and several places where a cooperative of artisans exhibit their articles and have a loom to teach visitors the process of manufacturing these beautiful textiles, so we support everyone!

Teotitlán del Valle is a smallish village about half an hours’ drive from Oaxaca City that is most famous for its hand-woven textiles and in particular rugs. It also has a small museum, a market, a church, a small archaeological area next to the church, and a picturesque small revoir and dam behind the village. Teotitlán del Valle is a Zapotec village and thought to be founded around the second half of the fifteenth century

This village is considered to be one of the first that was founded by the Zapotecs around 1465. It is known for its textiles, especially rugs, which are woven on hand-operated looms, and combine historical Zapotec with contemporary designs. This church of the village was built on the site of a local Zapotec temple, which was destroyed when the Spanish arrived. On the side of the church is a small archeological area. There is also an interesting museum called Balaa Xtee Guech Gulal, which means “in the shadow of the old village/people.”

A small village on the outskirts of Oaxaca that is completely dedicated to rug making. Beautiful hand-made rugs, meets the families who make them, and participate in the process.
