One of Rochester's most beautiful public parks, Highland Park is set on 19.6 acres of rolling hills, with massive oak, pine, and maple trees; walking trails; and open spaces. It's a wonderful place to go for a walk on the wooded and winding trails, or simply soak up the serenity. In fall, when the leaves are changing color, it's spectacular. One of the highlights of the park is the Lamberton Conservatory. The original building with its beautiful glass dome and windows was built in 1911, but was completely rebuilt it according to the original plans in 2008. We are lucky enough to have a beautiful Conservatory within Highland Park. The temperature is always nice and warm so this is the perfect place to go when the weather is bad. I'm told the Conservatory contains an impressive variety of unusual plants. Cost is just a few dollars, which is a bargain when you consider you get access to seasonal displays, orchids, towering hibiscus plants with every color flower, a large succulent and cactus gardens, water features plus active turtles and small birds moving about.

Within the glass walls of Lamberton Conservatory are many plants not hardy enough to survive Rochester's temperate climate. Under the main dome of the facility is a tropical floral display. Other climate-controlled rooms contain collections of exotic tropical plants, desert plants, economic plants (such as banana and coffee trees), as well as carnivorous and house plants. Among the most popular attractions at the Conservatory are fauna and seasonal floral displays. Exhibits are changed seasonally – there is always something beautiful to see.
