Just a short 10 minute ferry ride from the harbour front Newcastle island is a great place to spend a day hiking, renting kayaks in the summer, or having a picnic.

Newcastle Island is small island near Downtown Nanaimo. Take a small passenger ferry across for a 8km scenic hike. Pack a backpack lunch for the beach and watch for whales!
