The nearby town of Port Colborne is on the Welland Canal, where the big ships traverse the canal system. One of the best ship watching locations in Port Colborne is at Lock 8 Gateway Park that provides a beautiful landscaped viewing stand and fountain. Picnic facilities as well as rest rooms are also on-site.

The Welland canal connects Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. It forms a key section of the St. Lawrence seaway, and enables ships to ascend and descend the Niagara escarpment. Sit in the kitchen and watch ships from around the world pass by just 100 metres away!
