Spectacular views and a big, beautiful beach. One of our favorite things to do is get up really early and walk to Atwater Park to watch the sun rise over Lake Michigan.

With a great view of Lake Michigan, this park has a lovely, well maintained beach at the bottom of a stretch of stairs. Just south of the beach, under 23 feet of water, is one of Lake Michigan's many shipwrecks. The Appomattox, a wooden bulk carrier, sunk in 1905. Located in the Shorewood neighborhood, which is home to some beautiful late 1800s and early 1900s lakefront mansions.
