4 Pines Manly

When I ferry out to Manly, I visit 4 Pines to drink their pale ale or a new release out on the deck, which overlooks Manly Beach and its iconic Norfolk pines. There’s nothing better than a schooner—or craft beer cocktail—burger, calamari, and maybe some live surf rock while looking out at the ocean. They also run tours and a beer bunker downstairs. Bring your swimsuit and towel in case you want to go to the beach afterward. Manly is a mellow surf beach, and there’s a more protected cove, Shelly Beach, a short walk away that’s great for snorkeling and even scuba diving—though that’s not recommended after drinking.
