Our nearest big city is Manta, where you will find a regional airport, big-city style malls, and plenty of restaurants. There is a major port in Manta which receives cruise ships and is home to a large tuna fishing fleet. Get the freshest fish possible at the Playita Mia open air fish market.

Puerto Cayo is a fishing village in the southern end of Manabi province. It is located close to Machalilla National Park and its main industry is fishing. In front of Puerto Cayo is a small island called Islot Pedernales where you can dive. The island is also home to pelicans, frigate birds, and blue-footed boobies.

Kitchen area: Fully equipped for any possible need. There is also a rooftop kitchen with gas barbeque as well as dining and social areas. Enjoy the Pacific sunset!

Important Information
As is the case throughout most of Ecuador, our sewage system can only accommodate organic materials. Please do not throw toilet paper or any other objects in the toilet. Use the garbage bin beside the toilet.

Bring Food and Essentials
We have limited shopping nearby so you are best to pick up food to bring with you to prepare in our fully equipped kitchen. There is a small tienda onsite, that is open 4 days per week where you can find essentials you may have forgotten to bring with you. We provide hand and laundry soap as well as paper products only for the first days.

Don't forget your swimsuit
In addition to the fantastic Playa San Jose, Casa Luna offers you a private swimming pool in the courtyard for the home. Once you are refreshed from your dip in the pool, take a siesta in one of the hammocks hung under the bamboo roof pergola. Physical fitness buff? The community social areas include a full-size soccer field, tennis courts, a large pool, as well as a playground and children's pool area.

Potable water 5 gallon bottles delivered to the door $1.25
As is the case throughout Ecuador, the municipal water in our community is not potable. The Casa offers a 5 gallon water cooler for chilled potable water. We provide at least one full 5 gallon water bottle to start. If you need a refill, simply put an empty jug out on the sidewalk with $1.25 underneath and local delivery services will soon replace the empty water bottle with a full one.

Rural Ecuador - be flexible
Our home is located in an urbanization in rural Ecuador. While it offers all the amenities you could wish for a beach vacation, we are subject to the types of outages that can happen in any rural environment. Occasional power outages occur, and we have a generator to help mitigate that risk. Power outages usually are short duration, not long enough to require firing up the generator. On holiday weekends sometimes the community runs short of water, however the Casa has a water storage cistern with sufficient water to provide the house for showers, toilets, and washing dishes for a couple days.
