The booming port city of Manta, in Manabi Province, is a must-see for every first-time traveler to Ecuador. Manta is not a conventionally beautiful city. It is not an old city. It is not a cultured city. But it does have an extraordinary sense of its own emerging greatness. While there, visit the fish market where locals buy their fresh shrimp (usually around USD 3-4 per pound) or tuna (USD 10 for three pounds). This is a real city. IF you need something important, this is where you go. Home of industry and the Tuna Fleets.

Our nearest big city is Manta, where you will find a regional airport, big-city style malls, and plenty of restaurants. There is a major port in Manta which receives cruise ships and is home to a large tuna fishing fleet. Get the freshest fish possible at the Playita Mia open air fish market.
