America’s Mountain, Pikes Peak, is easternmost peak in the United States over 14,000 feet in elevation and the view from its summit inspired Katharine Lee Bates to write the lyrics for “America the Beautiful” in 1895.

The drive up this mountain and back down usually takes the majority of a half day, especially if you stop for some famous hot doughnuts. If you are from a much lower elevation I would strongly recomend putting this towards the end of your stay as most tend to struggle aout 8k elevation.

Absolutely breathtaking! (Even though it is under construction). Plan to spend 4-6 hours making it to the top. A shuttle will take you to the top weather permitting. Best to go first thing in the morning when there is less tourist traffic.

Enjoy a three hour drive (round trip) to the top of America's Mountain. Or, if you're feeling strong, hike up!

“Old Colorado City is a hidden gem. I’ve talked to natives who have lived in Colorado their whole lives and they don’t even know about it. It’s about a half a mile long but contains some of the top restaurants in the area. There are also events there on the weekends, such as art fairs and music festivals.”

“We just love this zoo located on a mountain. It is a more difficult walk to see the natural type settings, may be challenging for older adults and younger children. Our favorite thing is feeding the giraffes!”
