2,000 years of history - hidden in plain sight. Excavated in the recent past, this is one of the most iconic monuments in northern mainland Britain. Other brochs are in the Western Isles, Shetland and Orkney - we have one on our doorstep. Approach it from a stop at the white, sandy beach of Clachtoll by taking th e turn to Clachtoll Campsite.
Brochs are Iron Age forts, typical for the north of Scotland. This broch was recently excavated and is unusually well-preserved. Make a day of it by going to Clachtoll Beach and Flossie's Beach Hut for coffee.
This vibrant cliff and beach walk from Clachtoll to Store is a gentle stroll which takes about an hour. The beach is a gem, unspoilt white sands. Great views out to sea and if you time it right, magical sunsets.
