One of the most important tourist resources of Montenegro and Podgorica. The wealth of flora and fauna, the crypto depression and the habitat of rare endangered bird species such as the curly pelican make it unique in the region and beyond. It offers visitors many pleasures and opportunities for recreation. These are hiking and biking trails, boat and boat cruises, beach vacations, and visits to island churches and monasteries. There is also Vranjina, an island and a unique village on Lake Skadar. It is known as Montenegrin Venice, due to its natural environment and specific atmosphere. There is a Visitor Center in Vranjina, where there are relief representations of all the national parks in Montenegro, information about the natural and cultural heritage of each of them, as well as exhibits of animal species. Near the Center there is the island and the fortress Lesendro from the 18th century. How can I get to Lake Skadar? If you want to visit the national park and e.g. rent an excursion boat on the lake, the small town you need to reach is Virpazar, only 800 meters from the main entrance to the national park and the visitor information center. Places that you can still consider as an entrance to the national park are Vranjine and Rijeka Crnojevića, but in Virpazar you have the most choices if you want to explore the national park. By car: the easiest way to get to Lake Skadar is by car. Podgorica - Virpazar 29 km and 30 to 35 minutes drive. By train: Trains depart 5-10 times a day, tickets are cheap, costing only a few euros. The Virpazar train station is 800 meters from the entrance to the national park. Arriving by train is an option you should consider if you don't have a car. You can find information about ticket prices and timetables on the official website of the Railways of Montenegro. By bus: it is definitely possible to get to Lake Skadar by local buses. When you buy a ticket, ask for a ticket to Virpazar, never to Shkodra, so that they don't mishear you and think that you want to travel to Shkodër in Albania. ADVICE: On the bus, tell the driver that you are going to the Skadar Lake National Park and ask him to stop near the entrance so that you don't have to walk an additional 800 meters from Virpazar. Approximately 10 buses run daily from Podgorica to Virpazar. Travel time by bus is about 30-40 minutes; You can buy tickets at Podgorica Bus Station and on the bus . You can find the timetable and ticket prices on the website of the Podgorica bus station. The ticket price is around 3e. Useful information when visiting Lake Skadar? The entrance fee for Skadar National Park, as well as for Durmitor National Park, is quite cheap, €4 per person, including entry to the visitor center in Virpazar and Vranjine. If you want to rent a kayak you have to pay an additional €2 for a permit. Camping, fishing and berry picking also require a permit. You can buy all permits at the entrance, the prices are not excessive. Hiking is also popular in this park; there are approximately 10 marked hiking trails, a detailed map can be purchased at the entrance. You can also rent bicycles at the exit; there are 5 marked bicycle paths and 2 paths intended for mountain biking. Excursions by traditional wooden boats are possible from Vranjin, Virpazar and Plavnica. Most tours are available from Virpazar, you can go on a boat trip alone or in a group of up to 5 people.
