A little off the beaten path, this bar/observatory formerly known as the Chinese Room has a great happy hour and water/city view. Admission includes a chatty history lesson as you make your way to a gorgeous vintage elevator and your first drink.

Seattle's original skyskraper, the 42-story Smith Tower was built by the Smith-Corona typewriter magnate and when completed in 1914 was the tallest building west of the Mississippi. The top floor observation deck and adjacent space, called the Chinese Room, has furniture and a ceiling decorated with panels gifted by the last Empress of China. We would recommend this not just as a better viewing platform than the Space Needle but richer in local history and much less expensive to boot!

Seattle's original skyscraper. We vote skip the Space Needle in favor of a view of it from one of Seattle's historic buildings.

They have a tour of this iconic building, once known as the tallest building in Seattle. There is an observatory floor and bar with food and drinks. A great place to learn some history and see Seattle from above.

I've never been here myself but I think it's totally worth it just for the view alone. Once upon a time, the Smith Tower used to be the tallest building in Seattle. It is a beautiful example of Art Deco.
