About 18 miles from Alness on the Lairg to Bonar Road. Good free off road parking. Good short path to the falls. Best time to witness September to November particularly after heavy rain.
You can include a stop here as part of a circular drive from the cottage. Leaving Embo head north,turning right at the top juction you head for Golpie passing Loch Fleet which is a National Nature Reserve.Following the road north to the mound,turn off left for Rogart and follow the road to Lairg(the cross roads to the north/north west)head south on the A836 and turn right onto the A839 keep left onto the B864,its 3.8 miles to Falls of Shin. There you will also find Mac and Wild Cafe/Resturant with a lovely kids play area and a nice woodland walk. Leaving follow the road to Invershin and taking the road to Bonar bridge you will take in the views of Carbisdale Castle on the south side of the River. When you reach Bonar Bridge you have the choice to head back towards Dornoch or south over the bridge to Ardgay which takes you Edderton and back to the Dornoch Bridge.Or if you fancy a longer drive,take a right up over Struie Hill where the view point takes in spectacular Views across the Dornoch firth

Great to see the salmon leap. What a struggle & lovely scenery !! Nice little tearoom, but also great for a pick-nick ;o))
