English Heritage - A huge fortification begun during the Napoleonic Wars and completed in the 1860s, designed to protect Dover from French invasion. Only the moat can be visited.

The Western Heights are one of the most impressive and vast fortifications in Britain. It’s a fascinating place to walk around and explore with incredible views across Dover and out to sea. The Western Heights Preservation Society run free tours inside the Drop Redoubt fort on the third Sunday of April, June, July and August.
