Williston History: People have called this area home dating back 8,000 years. The Abenaki people lived here prior to the first European settlers who arrived in the 1700s. Higher elevations, such as Five Tree Hill, were used as lookouts to site herds of caribou or deer. Wetlands and ponds, such as Mud Pond and Lake Iroquois, were rich in wildlife and served as hunting grounds. European settlement began in the early 1770s. Present day Williston’s proximity to Burlington International Airport and I-89 make it attractive to businesses.
