If you're looking for something really special, pricey, but worth it, you cannot go past Urbane. Modern Australian using fresh local produce, it's guaranteed to be a memorable time.

I was first introduced to Urbane by a friend who knew the owner (who she introduce me to). Several months later I returned because was so impressed with meal, and what was more impressive was that he remembered by name, and what I drank and struck up a conversation that made me feel like we were old mates. That was over 10 years ago, and the place is still going strong. From the first shot of house-brewed kombucha to the doll-sized native fruit infusion that bookends your meal, this is an experience to savour. A volley of snacks - mussel with kimchi oil, or tofu in ponzu, say, and a hunk of macadamia sourdough - raises expectations, and the gallery-like room with its almost Japanese aesthetic is a meditative space in which to relish the artistry that follows. Nutty buckwheat, charred cucumber and coconut prove an inspired pairing for scallops, fresh cucumber and apple. Likewise, a zesty squid-ink sauce, laced with lime and jewels of finger lime, draws together the umami of charry octopus tentacle and earthy artichoke purée. Opting for wine pairings is advisable, and knowledgeable floor staff can oblige with half-pours. Desserts are similarly ambitious with zesty pomelo adding bite to an ethereal freeze-dried mandarin parfait with rooftop honeycomb. Bravura stuff.
