If you travel to the Hudson River Valley on Amtrak be sure to ask your conductor which side of the car faces the River. The ride from NYC is beautiful as the train travels much of the trip at river level and it's fun to look at the river, the mountains, cliffs and sky. Watch for bald eagles! The train can be expensive and the sooner you book the better.
